Two blocks of Azalea Drive in Garden City Beach are closed while authorities examine a possibly explosive device, said Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Rescue Capt. Chuck Petrella.
Petrella said beachgoers found an device, which he said appears to have been in the ocean for a while, and dropped it off at the fire station on Azalea Drive after 6 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters immediately called the Horry County Bomb Squad. Petrella said Horry County’s bomb squad called in the Charleston Navy bomb squad.
Azalea Drive between Waccamaw Drive and Dogwood Drive will remain closed until the device is deemed safe or disposed of.
