A 27-year-old Columbia man was charged Wednesday with sexual assault on two children under the age of 11 after the SC Department of Social Services reported the accusations to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
The incidents involving a 5-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy occurred between September 2010 and July 2012 at the River Oaks Apartments where the children lived near Irmo, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
David Albert McDonald is accused of having sexual intercourse with the girl and performing sex acts on the boy. McDonald knew the children but the sheriff’s department did not indicate how he knew them.
McDonald was being held at the Lexington County Detention Center Thursday afternoon awaiting a bond hearing.
Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty said McDonald remains under investigation as detectives try to determine if he assaulted other children.
Anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving McDonald is asked to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
