Charges are pending against a woman after authorities spent more than an two hours in a standoff at a home on the 300 block of Heritage Road off U.S. 701 in Conway Friday, said Horry County Sheriff’s spokesman Jeff Benton.
Benton said a deputy went to the home to serve papers in civil eviction proceedings before 11 a.m. Friday morning. When there was no answer to a knock on the door, the deputy entered the home by court order and heard a woman yell from another room that she would shoot him if he didn’t get out and heard a noise that sounded like a taser, Benton said.
SWAT and negotiation team members from the Horry County Police Department were called and Benton said a CodeRED alert was sent to residents signed up for the service to let people know about the police presence in the neighborhood.
Police forced entry into the home after about two hours of failed negotiations and arrested a 72-year-old woman.
Police plan to charge her with threatening the life of a public official. The Sun News does not name suspects until formal charges are filed.
