Eight Republican candidates for state superintendent of education will debate Tuesday on S.C. ETV from 7 to 8 p.m. The debate is the second of five that ETV and a group of S.C. newspapers -- including The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette -- are sponsoring.
The debates will be streamed live on the newspapers' website, at http://bit.ly/bc-elections.
In the Lowcountry, the debates also are being televised on S.C. ETV (Time Warner Channel 6, Hargray Channel 7, Comcast Channel 12 and Charter Channel 8).
Who? Appearing will be special-needs teacher Sally Atwater of Charleston, Anderson County school board member Gary Burgess, former deputy superintendent Meka Childs of West Columbia, former teacher Amy Cofield of Lexington, nonprofit leader Sheri Few of Lugoff, University of South Carolina math professor Don Jordan, Charleston school board member Elizabeth Moffly and S.C. Association of School Administrators executive director Molly Spearman of Saluda.
What's next? The Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate seat held by Tim Scott will debate Thursday from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Next week, the GOP candidates for lieutenant governor and the Republican candidates for the Senate seat held by Lindsey Graham will debate on ETV.
