First Congressional candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a Democrat, accepted an endorsement Thursday from Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling at the USCB Sea Island Center.
"When I met Billy for the first time, I was so impressed with his openness, willingness to talk and relentless advocacy for Beaufort," Colbert Busch said in a statement. "Billy is a strong and forceful advocate for his community, and I'm honored to have his support for my campaign to create good jobs and get our fiscal house back in order."
Keyserling said: "In my career as an elected official, I have never endorsed anyone else for office, but I admire Elizabeth Colbert Busch's toughness, business savvy and her commitment to Beaufort, especially balancing our budget and standing up for military families."
"We need someone we can call in Washington who will pick up the phone, listen to what we have to say and help our community get stronger. When Mark Sanford was governor for eight years and a member of Congress for six years, he never called to ask how he could stand up for our community. Elizabeth will be a tough advocate for Beaufort, and I'm proud to endorse her today."
