The first general election ad for Congressional candidate Mark Sanford surfaced Wednesday, attacking Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch for her support from labor unions.
"Elizabeth Colbert Busch says she knows jobs and will be independent, but she's not telling you that she's supported by labor unions," says a narrator in the ad. "Nearly $30,000 in checks from big labor, even from the union who tried to shut down Boeing and ship a thousand jobs out of South Carolina."
In recent weeks, Sanford has called on Colbert Busch to return contributions from labor unions, including one that worked to keep Boeing from locating a new plant in North Charleston.
Colbert Busch has refused, saying Sanford is engaging in negative campaigning and saying she is not in the pocket of any special interest group including unions.
