A Texas man was arrested Thursday after he tried to run from deputies on Hilton Head Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Jamond Campbell, 26, of Killeen, Texas, was charged with fleeing to evade, as well as possession of less than one gram of crack cocaine, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.
Deputies were called to the Ramada Inn on Museum Street in connection with a fight at 10:50 p.m., but found only a man in a red Dodge truck who appeared to be crouching down in his seat to avoid being seen, McIntosh said. Officers later made contact with Campbell in a hotel room, but he ran, McIntosh said.
After a short chase, deputies caught Campbell and searched him, seizing a half-gram of crack and about $1,000 cash, according to McIntosh. In his truck, they found about 30 grams of marijuana and a loaded pistol, she said.
Campbell remained at the Beaufort County Detention Center on Friday, with bond set at $31,092.50.
