Almost three months later than anticipated, construction crews are expected to return to Beaufort and finish repaving started in September.
The paving, which is federally funded and managed by the S.C. Department of Transportation, was originally planned to begin the week before Labor Day. Residents and business owners vocally opposed the idea of paving Bay Street right before the holiday, and it was delayed until after that weekend.
APAC Inc. quickly paved Bay Street between Carteret and North streets, and then Lafayette Street between Audusta Place and where Lafayette turns south.
But then APAC departed for weeks, saying it had to complete another construction job. Crews were expected back at the beginning of October.

Now, the city has been told by the DOT that the crews will return soon after Thanksgiving to pave other roads as originally planned and address any problems with the completed work.
DOT spokesman James Law said it will be very soon after Thanksgiving, but he did not have more detailed information.
Expected remaining work is on Charles Street between Boundary and Bay streets, North Street between East and Adventure streets, Waddell Road between Battery Creek and Talbird roads, and Battery Creek Road between Allison and Mossy Oaks roads.
The DOT and APAC have said drivers will have access to homes and businesses along the construction routes. That is expected to continue with this work.
Construction will involve milling the existing road and repaving it. The previous plan was for work to only be done during the day in residential areas, which is where the bulk of the rest of the paving will occur.
City public works director Lamar Taylor said the DOT might also repave Greene Street soon through a separate project.
Greene Street in the Northwest Quadrant neighborhood is riddled with uneven spots and potholes. Law did not have details available on that work.
