The Houlihan Bridge near the South Carolina-Georgia border will be closed until further notice for emergency bridge repairs, according to a Georgia Department of Transportation news release.
The bridge is on Georgia Route 25 near Port Wentworth, Ga., in Chatham County. It crosses the Savannah River into Port Wentworth after the road passes through Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.
The bridge will reopen when repairs are finished, according to the release.
The department has planned a designated and signed 23-mile detour for drivers to use in the meantime:
“Traffic traveling east of the bridge on South Carolina Route 170 may use U.S. 17 northbound to I-95 southbound to Georgia Route 21 (Exit 109) southbound to Georgia Route 30 to Georgia Route 25.
“Traffic west of the bridge on Georgia Route 25 north may use Georgia Route 30/Bonnybridge Road west to Georgia Route 21/Augusta Road north to I-95 north to US 17 south.”
