Suspect in June boat landing shooting captured at Beaufort hotel
A Beaufort man wanted in connection with a June 4 shooting at the Broad River Boat Landing was arrested early Sunday after deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, the sheriff's office SWAT team, and Beaufort City Police descended on a downtown Beaufort hotel room.
Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators got a tip at about 9 a.m. that Darryl Green, wanted on an assault and battery with intent to kill charge, was at the America's Best Inn on Boundary Street with 25-year-old Davon Ward, "an associate" wanted on a burglary charge, said sheriff's office Cpt. Scott Johnson.
The SWAT team, along with city and county officers, surrounded the building, and negotiators called the room at about 9:45 a.m., Johnson said.
Green, Ward and two others emerged without incident. All four were arrested. Police later found two handguns in the room, Johnson said.
"It was a combined effort," he said. "(Green) was very armed and dangerous."
Green, who is 38 according to the Beaufort County Detention Center jail log, was also charged with unlawful sale of a pistol, burglary in the first degree, two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, and two counts of attempted armed robbery.
He had been on the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Most Wanted list, Johnson said.
The other two people in the room were arrested on harboring a fugitive charges. One faces an additional providing false information to police officers charge.
Green had been at large since the June 4 incident when police were called to the boat landing and found a 22-year-old Burton man with a gunshot wound.
The man told police he was approached by Green. As the two argued, Green allegedly pulled a handgun and shot the man once in the back.
Police are still investigating the incident, Johnson said.
The following report was released Sunday by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
