Hardeeville trying to attract visitors

The Greater Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce will start a new strategy today for attracting visitors to the city and surrounding areas.

At 10 a.m. at the S.C. Department of Transportation Welcome Center at Exit 5 on Interstate 95, Mayor Bronco Bostic will present a stack of the just-printed "Hardeeville Cost-Conscious Discovery Guides" to the center's manager.

The 48-page guide will be distributed to all S.C. DOT welcome centers, as well as in other information centers in South Carolina and Georgia. The 21,000 guides include information on housing, golf courses, shopping and

accommodations.

The "The Hardeeville Stay Here -- Visit There" campaign is mounted in concert with five billboards on I-95 and training sessions for "contact personnel" in local motels and restaurants.

Leadership class graduates from Chamber

The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce recently honored 21 area business professionals who graduated from its annual leadership program.

The class' project was "Gimme 5 -- For Health and Fitness." The project's mission is to educate, inspire and motivate kids of all ages to eat more fruits and vegetables, striving for the recommended daily allowance of five to six servings, and to increase their physical fitness activities.

The leadership program focuses on the culture, history, environment, economics and civics of southern Beaufort County.
