When office parties go bad: Drunken reveler fired, crashes, threatens boss, goes to jail
A Hilton Head Island man's first employee appreciation weekend will be his last.
The 40-year-old worker at an island insurance company was fired after drinking too much during an outing at Kiawah Island last weekend. He insulted other employees and then drove away from a car wreck before police arrived, according to a series of Beaufort County sheriff's reports released Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the manager of the agency arrived at work to find a profanity-laden voice mail from the now-former employee. The message reportedly ended with the man saying he would get the "last laugh."
A deputy investigating the phone call arrived at the man's home, only to be berated. The man followed the deputy outside, where the hostility continued.
He was arrested for public disorderly conduct and taken to the county jail.
