Man stalks woman with cell-phone camera in island store

A 53-year-old Hilton Head Island woman reported that she thinks a man following her in a store was trying to take pictures up her skirt with a cell phone camera, according to a Beaufort County sheriff's report released Thursday.

The woman was shopping at TJ Maxx, 32 Shelter Cove Lane, on Sunday evening when she noticed the man following her throughout the store.

As she browsed through a book, she sensed movement behind her. She turned around to find the man squatting behind her with a cell phone camera in-hand, the report said.

The man ran off when he was detected.

The woman reported the incident to the store manager that evening and the Sheriff's Office the following day. A deputy reviewed security camera footage, but was unable to find any shots of the man.

A store employee said he would continue watching the footage to try to find the man.
