Couple hooks shark, catches wave, abandons ship
A husband and wife on a fishing trip on the Broad River Thursday morning were rescued after their boat began to take on water, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office incident report.
The wife hooked a shark, and while the couple attempted to get it on board, a wave struck the side of their boat and it began to sink, according to the report.
Another boater helped the two get themselves and their gear off the sinking boat. The boater took the couple to the Broad River Boat Landing, according to the report. No one was injured.
A volunteer Marine Rescue Unit later removed the couple's boat from the river, according to the report.
