Sprinkler floods auxiliary gym floor at Hilton Head Island High
Students at Hilton Head Island High School were evacuated for about a half-hour around noon Thursday, according to district spokesman John Williams.
During a physical education class, a student accidentally kicked a ball into an indoor emergency fire sprinkler, flooding the auxiliary gym.
District crews are working to clean up the water. It is not immediately clear if there is any major damage to the facility. The auxiliary gym is behind the main facility, and does not have bleachers. Physical education classes were held in the main gymnasium for the rest of the day.
