No new details released in case of missing couple
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office released no new information Sunday about the case of John and Elizabeth Calvert.
Authorities were expected to hold a press conference last week about the analysis of potential forensic evidence and the autopsy results of Dennis Gerwing, who had a slashed inner thigh and several knife wounds to the chest, sources say. Authorities are treating it as a suicide.
There is still no word on when the briefing will take place.
John Calvert, 47, and Elizabeth Calvert, 45, who live part-time in a yacht at Harbour Town marina, were reported missing March 4. They were last seen with Gerwing, their former business associate, the evening before. At that meeting, those close to the couple say, the Calverts had planned to confront Gerwing about money missing from their four businesses.
Police named Gerwing a "person of interest" in the case and searched his cars, home and office. He was found dead in a Sea Pines villa March 11, apparently taking his own life some 10 hours before he was publicly linked to the Calverts' case. In notes he left, he admitted stealing money from the couple, but didn't leave clues about the Calverts' disappearance, sources say.
