Coast Guard considers search for missing boater in craft registered in Hilton Head
The U.S. Coast Guard is consideringlaunching a search for a man sailing from Puerto Rico to Titusville, Fla., who didn't arrive as scheduled and has not be heard from. The boat is registered on Hilton Head Island, a Coast Guard official said Tuesday night.
The man, whose identity wasn't released, left San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Oct. 15, and was scheduled to arrive in Titusville last Thursday, Petty Officer Chris McDonald said.
No one has heard from the man since, McDonald said. The Coast Guard is currently contacting marinas along the route in an effort to locate the sailor, McDonald said. Once those contacts are complete, the Coast Guard will decide whether the search is necessary.
