Beaufort Police are looking for a 28-year-old Yemassee man in connection with an armed robbery Thursday in the parking lot of a Beaufort shopping center.

Officers say that at about 11:25 a.m., Anthony Singletary lured a female acquaintance to the parking lot of the Cross Creek Shopping Center on Robert Smalls Parkway, claiming he needed a ride.

When the woman arrived, she said Singletary opened the door and grabbed her purse, according to the police. The woman said Singletary had a black handgun in one hand and her purse in the other.

The woman then got out of the car and tried to wrestle her purse away but failed.

Singletary got into a late model, green Nissan pickup driven by another man. The woman followed the truck into the Leo Green Street area of Burton.

The woman said Singletary jumped out of the truck and ran into a wooded area. Neither man has been located, and the purse was not recovered.

Police say Singletary should be considered armed and dangerous. His accomplice is described as a black man in his late 20s.
