Readers are enthusiastic about the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the ACE Basin Project, and with temperatures expected to rise this weekend, the weather should allow folks to get out and enjoy what nature made and man has preserved.
Our four-story package chronicling the conservation effort included an article about the businesses that have cropped up or continued to thrive since the ACE Basin's conception, many of them focused on enjoying the outdoors. The water might be a little too cold for you to take your kayak for an Eskimo roll like this one, but there is still plenty to see and do this weekend.
Click here and scroll to the end for a list of must-see places in the ACE Basin, as well as maps to help get you there.
If you're into birdwatching, you might recall the tool we launched this past summer, The Lowcountry's 10 Best Spots for Birding. Four of the 10 spots are within the ACE Basin and are worth a visit even if you're more into alligators, trees, or just a quiet, undisturbed hike.
Here are videos on the four sites, to get you pumped for a weekend outdoors.
Grove Plantation, part of the Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge
Bear Island Wildlife Management Area
