The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn will present a program on bald eagles in the Lowcountry on at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island.
Tom Murphy, a retired biologist from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and principal investigator for the Bald Eagle Program for 33 years, will share his knowledge of the natural history of bald eagles in the Lowcountry. The presentation will cover the successes and difficulties in recovering and maintaining bald eagles in South Carolina. Different factors contributed to the decimation of the national bird; however, these spectacular predators were taken off the endangered species list in 2007, and are now a common sight in the Lowcountry. Cost is a $7 donation. Reservations are required.
