Images taken by Sue Jarrett of Lady's Island, a former Beaufort Gazette photographer, recently were selected for publication on two nature-photography websites.
The North American Nature Photography Association website published"Walking Drink" on June 16. It featured an elephant and her calf pausing for a drink in mid-stream during Jarrett's 2009 trip to Africa. Each day, NANPA picks 10 photos at random to fill a scrolling image feature at the top of its pages. These are samples of photographs submitted by members, according to the association's website.
Jarrett remembered taking the shot that was selected: She and her husband, Dick, "had a morning drive and came back to our lodge for lunch. On the way back to our room, I saw this gang of elephants starting to cross the Ewaso Ngoro River right by us! Dick and I grabbed our cameras and shot for over an hour!"
The Audubon Society recently included a photo Jarrett submitted as part of a gallery of top submissions for its annual international nature photography contest. It depicts three reticulated giraffes frolicking in Samburu National Park in Kenya.
