Margie Backaus and James Soules have upped the fine-dining expectations in Bluffton.
Last week they held a soft opening of their gorgeous new sleek, fabulous, modern-Soho meets "state of mind" restaurant Bluffton Room in The Promenade. The three-story brick building is beautifully designed to take advantage of the Promenade's open space. The restaurant is on the first floor, and upper floors house luxury apartments.
The building features a huge glass window on the first level that can be opened to give diners the feeling they are outside. There is a bar and stools on which to perch on the opposite side outdoors so patrons can have drinks and enjoy all that the surroundings offer.
At the opening night party, guests enjoyed wine, beer, signature cocktails and delicious food called "new American" cuisine. Blufftonians and guests began arriving at 5:30 and the party started. Having a grand old time were Donna Huffman, Kim and Thomas Viljac, Jill Ehring, Blanche Sullivan, Brenda Lindblad, Chris Katon, Barbara Dugan-Blackburn Boner, Gretchen Maldonis, Michele Caruso, Tami Flick, Margie's besties Pat, Berard, Stephanie, Cheryl, Lori and Angela Gale looking lovely as always. There were so many enjoying themselves at the fun evening I can't fit them all in. The rain stopped so the crowd drifted to the outside patio to enjoy a lovely Bluffton evening. Bluffton Room opens at 5 p.m. so stop by and take a peek at this new hot spot. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.

The clever duo have founded an organic artisan baking company in L.A.. Their wonderful treats are packed in lovely hand-made wooden boxes that are stamped with the "Sugar Maple" logo. The delicious goodies are shipped to all corners of the good old U.S.A.
Lisa was on a holiday recently here in Bluffton visiting her charming parents, Barbara and Jim Giuntoli who live in Sun City Hilton Head. If you would like to know more about Lisa and Deanna's beautiful treats go to www.sugarmaplelosangeles.com. They would make a beautiful gift for a special person.
Bill Harper is a charming and very funny person. The other day he mentioned on Facebook that a friend had brought him some cheese curds from Wisconsin. I could only imagine Little Miss Muffett on her tuffett munching away. I told this to him and the next day he popped in with some curds for me to try. I followed his eating instructions and was quite pleased. No spiders came near enough to frighten me while I was enjoying my curds. They are an unusual gourmet treat. By the way, Bill has an adorable dog named "Banjo" who travels everywhere his master goes.
