What a week. There were so many crazy things going on. It was amazing.
Mary and Shelby Herbkersman hosted a pizza pie pan painting party at their new pizza emporium in the Promenade. Guests were given their choice of a pie pan to paint. Mary and Shelby made sure each artist had plenty of wine so creativity could flow freely.
Charlie and Kate Hughes, Beth Woods and Ella Wyman were sitting near me so I got to see what they were up to. Sylvia Coker was there with her daughter painting up a storm. We were using Nancy Golson's paints; hope she doesn't mind. It isn't easy to think of a masterpiece that will be hung on the wall for hungry pizza eaters to see.
Brandon Hughes has accepted the role as manager at the Herbkersmans' new venture, so all should go smoothly. The building is very attractive -- sort of Cape Cod meets Bluffton in style. It is between Captain Woody's and Bluffton BBQ. Stop by and try a pie and take a look at our artwork.
Well, Lori and Peter did not need to sober up ... so guess what. The darling Lori Brown is now the darling Mrs. Peter Kraft. Isn't that a wonderful way to get hitched? I didn't really think they would jump the broom in such a way, but boy was I wrong. Fabulous news and a great story to tell their grandchildren. Much happiness to them both.
The tide had been low late in the afternoon, so that made many happy Bluffton sandbar visitors. The moon was setting as was the sun so it was a nifty sight. That sandbar really gets a good workout. I'm glad it can't talk, but I'm sure there are many wonderful stories it could tell.
The paint was considered a Yankee thing, so many Southerners mixed the black paint with Rebel yellow. That is how Charleston Green came to be -- so the story goes. The Charlestonians love that color now and have done so for many years. It is widely used in many other places too. Necessity is most assuredly the mama of invention.
BLUFFTON PEACH CRISP
8 or 9 fresh ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, sliced and squeezed
3 tablespoons or so of lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 stick sweet butter, chilled, cut up
1/4 cup quick cook oats
Pour lemon juice over the peaches and add the next two spices. Toss well. Put sugar, flour, butter in a small bowl and mix until crumbly with a pastry blender or two forks. Stir in oats. Put peach mixture in a glass pie dish and arrange the crumbly topping on the peaches. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Peaches are coming soon to the farmers market.
