All of Calhoun Street was a hopping place to be this past week. On Wednesday, there was a celebration for Brooks Cobb at Vineyard 55. The party was given by his parents, George and Debbie Cobb, their daughter, Allison, and her husband, David Hussey, to showcase the beautiful guitars that Brooks handcrafts at his studio on Confederate Avenue.
There was wonderful music by musician Whitley Deputy and delightful food and drink. Rebecca and Bob Morris, two charming Blufftonites, kept the party humming. Joan and Bob Davis, Jason Hazel -- he owns Hazel Media -- and his beautiful designer girlfriend Debbie, Sue and Jeff Waldron, and Scott Evans and his cute wife -- Scott owns John's Music on the island -- were all enjoying the Bluffton experience.
Brooks had a great baptism into our wonderful world, and we all enjoyed seeing his special creations.
Dressed in wigs and 1970s duds, friends danced and mingled till the wee hours. Cal and Anna Sharp were really sporting it. Cal had a blonde afro wig. Lynn Miller Hicks, Margie Fox, Ansley and Tripp Manuel, Charlene Gardner, Jamie and sister, Tat Guscio, Dr. Secrest Sutherland, Heather Gilmore and Curtis Pascoe, Trish Lammy, Tim Holsinger, Billy Roe passing through with Roberts Vaux and daughter Mary Bell, David Brown taking photos, Nat and Chris Hefter, Geist's brother Grady and the list goes on and on.
Geist knows how to throw a party, I might add.
* The Red Cross needs volunteers to help with the preparation for the upcoming hurricane season. Classes will be held at the Red Cross building at Sheridan Park on from 6-9 p.m. June 5 and 17. DRESS MY SALAD
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2/3 cup fresh strawberries
1 teaspoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon onion powder
Pinch of salt
2 grinds of pepper mill
2/3 cup olive oil
Put everything in blender and puree. While blender is on, add oil in a slow stream. Serve over fresh baby spinach or baby lettuce greens. These vegetables should be arriving soon at the farmers market. This salad would be good with grilled fish or shrimp.
