A BB gun was found in a parking lot outside Battery Creek High School Saturday, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The BB gun was found in the student parking lot by a teacher overseeing wrestling playoffs at the school, the report said. The teacher originally believed the gun, a metal replica, was an actual pistol. However, the deputy assigned as the school's resource officer found it to be a BB gun with the metal safety tip removed, the report said.
The teacher turned the BB gun, which was found unloaded, over to the school's assistant principal, who held it until deputies arrived. Deputies brought the BB gun to the Sheriff's Office evidence division, the report said.
Deputies were unable to discern who had dropped the BB gun, as the location was too far away from a camera overlooking the lot to make out any details, the report said.
