A car hit a Beaufort County School District bus that was taking students home Monday afternoon, but no one was injured, the district said.
Seventeen students from Robert Smalls Middle School were onboard when the car struck the back of the bus in the Port Royal area about 3:15 p.m., district spokesman Jim Foster said.
The bus was backing up to turn around at the intersection of Midtown Drive and Parris Island Gateway when a four-door Kia struck it, said Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Detective Andre Massey. The bus driver was not at fault, he said.
The back bumper of the bus was scraped, causing about $100 in damage, Massey said. The Kia had about $2,000 worth of damage to its front end.

Because the bus needed to stay at the scene for the police report, Foster said, the district sent a second bus to take the students home.
