BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL
The Winter Sports Athletic Awards Ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in the John J. McVey Performing Arts Center, followed by a dinner. COOSA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The school has partnered with Lowcountry Running Company to help send shoes to Africa. People may drop off gently worn shoes at Lowcountry Running Company at 95A Factory Creek Court on Lady's Island in February. For every pair of shoes donated -- up to 200 pairs -- the school will receive $1 from the Lowcountry Running Company. Shoes then will be sent to African markets. GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS
The school will send alto saxophone player Tafari Salaam of Battery Creek High School to All State Jazz Band events Feb. 28-March 2. Band auditions are sponsored by the S.C. Band Directors Association and provide an opportunity for select high school students to play together from across the state.
Creative writing students received 251 total awards in the recent Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards for the Southeast Region. It is the first year all 26 creative writing junior and senior students received awards. If chosen for a national award, students will receive a $10,000 scholarship, be featured in a celebration at a prestigious Carnegie Hall ceremony and have their work showcased in reputable galleries in New York City. Winners will be announced March 15.
HOLY TRINITY CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
