HILTON HEAD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
The school's chapter of the National Honor Society held inductions Nov. 5. The new members are: Kate Bennett, Kevin Campbell, Alex Cooler, Lindsey Lane, Ben Likins, Brad Meccariello, Adriana Mendoza, Catherine Walsh and John Ziegler.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL
The school is collecting canned, dry and nonperishable food items that will be distributed to the less-fortunate residents of Beaufort County. All collected items will be donated to The Deep Well Project and the Franciscan Center at St. Helena in Beaufort. The drive will end Dec. 21.
HILTON HEAD PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Eighteen students were inducted into the National Honor Society, including Gracie Anderson, Brooke Churchich, Megan Frederick, Chris Gardocki, Maggie Gasser, John Gulbin, Logan Mallett, John Marbut, Sean Myers, Julia Nahman, Sean O'Connor, Mark Oppenheimer, Forest Richardson, John Sheehan, Christian Steinmetz, Shaun Topper, Carlie Van and Marisa Wojcikiewicz.
Peg Hamilton (College Counseling) and Dr. Michael Bassett '92 (English) received a Bright Ideas grant from Palmetto Electric to reinvigorate a literary journal published in the early 1990s to showcase exemplary student writing and artwork. Sarah Benedik (Science) also received a grant to purchase astronomy materials for a student-directed program.
"The Jubilee: Festival of Trees" annual dinner, dance and auction has been scheduled for Dec. 1 at the Sea Pines Golf Club in Harbour Town.
The next Parents' Association meeting is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Nov. 28.
There will be no school Nov. 21-26.
MAY RIVER MONTESSORI
The Thanksgiving bake sale will be Nov. 19.
The school will host "Jingle Mingle" Dec. 1 at Moss Creek. Evening will include dinner and dancing, a silent and live auction. The school's two founders, Nancy Golson and Mary Vaux, will be honored as the school celebrates it's 25th anniversary.
Thanksgiving Break will begin at 11:30 a.m Nov. 20-27.
MICHAEL C. RILEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Bus drivers serving M.C. Riley students recently completed a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) training workshop. The M.C. Riley Eagle Matrix was reviewed and focused on appropriate bus behaviors, as well as rewards and consequences.
SEA PINES MONTESSORI ACADEMY
The book fair will run from Nov. 13-20.
The school participated as a collection point for Operation Southern Hospitality, a Lowcountry relief effort for victims of Hurricane Sandy, orchestrated by Collins Group Realty on Hilton Head, Gavigan Homes in Beaufort and MedOne Lowcountry Medical Transport in Charleston.
