The National Museum of the Marine Corps is sponsoring a project to collect original art for wounded Marines. The museum will collect children's artwork through Dec. 10. The collection of original student works will be displayed in the Wounded Warrior wing of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Children are invited to draw, color or paint a picture on an 8 1/2-by-11 inch piece of paper. The child's name, hometown and grade level must be on the back of the submission. Congratulations to the BA high school Quiz Bowl team, which placed second at the regional tournament held Nov. 8 at Beaufort Academy. Career day will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Speakers will speak to classes about various careers and tools needed for those careers.
A STAR student lunch will take place Dec. 16. The STAR program awards classes for good behavior. Community members are invited to attend lunch with the class that has received the most awards. Beaufort County School District
Annual Needs Assessment surveys have been posted online for each school and the district at www.beaufort.k12.sc.us and the schools' individual websites. The information parents provide in the surveys are used to help develop the School Renewal Plan updates. There are versions in both Spanish and English. The surveys will close in Decemeber before the winter break.

Beaufort Middle School
The Scholastic Book Fair will begin Nov. 29. Students -- or parents, granparents, friends and neighbors -- can also order online immediately before and after the bookfair; there is a link on the school's website, bms.beaufort.k12.sc.us. This year students also have the option of ordering online before the cases arrive, and immediately after the book fair cases leave. Scholastic has set up a temporary website which is linked to bms.beaufort.k12.sc.us.
Sixth-graders are participating in the 21th annual FWDG Coat Drive. This countywide event has helped collect and distribute more than 33,000 coats and jackets to needy families in Beaufort County in the past two decades. Bring your gently-used coats, thick sweaters and jackets to our front office or send to school with a sixth-grader through Dec. 12.
E.C. Montessori School
*The school is holding Chick-fil-A Spirit Nights every fourth Monday at the Boundary Street Chick-fil-A. The next one is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 28. On Spirit Nights, 10 percent of all sales is donated to the school after the restaurant reaches $1,000 in sales.
The annual fund drive is underway. The first classroom to reach 100 percent participation with their families and staff at any financial level will win a treat from Berry Island and free books. There's also a donor who will match November and December donations up to $2,000.
Mossy Oaks Elementary School
The Cup Stacking team will hold its first meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the gym.
Science Fair projects are required for all fourth- and fifth-graders and are due Nov. 30. Judging will take place Dec. 1, and parents may view projects beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. The award ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.
Interim reports will be sent home with students Dec. 2.
Ident-A-Kid will be at the school Dec. 2. Order envelopes will be sent home soon for parents who would like to have an identification card made for their student.
Riverview Charter School
The RCC Winter family event will be Dec. 4. The event will begin immediately following the downtown Christmas parade at 3 p.m. There will be a chili contest. Other details, including information about the school's float in the parade, are still being finalized.
St. Peter Catholic School
School will be closed Wednesday through Friday for Thanksgiving.

Lexi Masters and Bailey Carson are among more than 500 elementary, junior high and high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the country to perform in the Universal Cheerleaders Association/Universal Dance Association Thanksgiving Tour at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. The cheerleaders and dancers performing were chosen as All-Americans during UCA and UDA summer camps across the country. Lexi and Bailey will perform with the UCA/UDA All-Americans group in the pre-parade at the Magic Kingdom Park on Thanksgiving Day.
