The National Museum of the Marine Corps is sponsoring a project to collect original art for wounded Marines. The museum will collect children's artwork through Dec. 10. The collection of original student works will be displayed in the Wounded Warrior wing of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Children are invited to draw, color or paint a picture on an 8.5-by-11-inch piece of paper. The child's name, hometown and grade level must be on the back of the submission. Operation Christmas Child is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the cafeteria. Bring Christmas wrapping paper, small stuffed animals, toys (no guns or soldiers), toothpaste, soap, washcloths, crayons, coloring books, pencils, combs, brushes, candy canes, shoeboxes, socks (for all ages), and postcards from our area (not of our military installations).
The SADD Club of Battery Creek High School is collecting shoeboxes of all sizes for Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes can be dropped off in the front office with Mrs. Grooms.
The SADD Club will continue to collect canned goods for CAPA and HELP of Beaufort until Nov. 10. A drop off box is available in the front office.
Students who are 18 should see Mrs. Grooms in the front office to register to vote.
The Band Boosters are currently holding a membership drive. The membership forms are available online and in the front office of the school. The membership fee is $5.
The annual fruit sale of the Dolphin Pride Band Boosters runs through Nov. 21, and the fruit is delivered in mid-December. Choose from navel oranges, juice oranges, clementines, tangelos, temple oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, apples, pears and gift boxes. Don't throw your pumpkins away after Halloween. Bring them to the school between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday or Thursday. They will be used as part of a yearlong schoolwide composting in the courtyard project run by students in the fourth grade.
BEAUFORT COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Parents who serve in the military or work for the federal goverment should fill out and return the Federal Impact Aid forms sent home with children. Completed forms must be returned to the school by today. Federal Impact Aid is an annual program that disperses federal grant money to local school districts that serve students whose parents live or work on federal property. In Beaufort County, those areas include the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, the Marine Corps Air Station and the Naval Hospital. The program is not limited to children of military personnel. It includes any child with one parent working on federal property. Parents who haven't received a form should contact their child's school immediately or download one from the district website, www.beaufort.k12.sc.us.
