The SADD Club of Battery Creek High School is collecting shoeboxes of all sizes for Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes can be dropped off in the front office with Mrs. Grooms.
Members of the varsity football team recently visited Broad River Elementary School and Robert Smalls Middle School. Football players Jayron Sneed, Javon Livingston, David Ratliff, Leroy Jennette and Ben Lee visited with third-, fourth- and fifth-grade classes at Broad River Elementary for more than an hour. They read books to students, explained the responsibility of being a high-school athlete and spent time with students during lunch. Varsity football players, Warren Lawyer, Thomas Hill, Ben Lee, Jayron Sneed, Javon Livingston, Caleb Harris and Trevon Heyward visited with students at Robert Smalls Middle School. The players ate lunch with members of the Robert Smalls Middle School football team, and discussed the importance of doing homework timely, keeping a clean discipline record and how to build a winning team. The players rotated from table to table to meet as many middle school players as possible. All the players were accompanied by Head Coach Jim Shuman.

AMES Parent Night is 6 p.m. today in the Seagull Cafe. There will be an Internet-safety presentation by Eve Heaton. After the presentation, fifth-grade AMES parents will discuss the trip to NASA and third- and fourth-grade AMES parents will visit classrooms.
The first SIC meeting of the year is at noon Sept. 27 in the principal's conference room.
Career day will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Nov. 22. Speakers will speak to classes about various careers and tools needed for those careers.
