The Art League of Hilton Head awards a $2,000 one-time scholarship to a graduating high school senior of a Hilton Head high school, who has been accepted into an accredited art school or a college where he/she will be majoring in the visual arts. The second annual Bingo and Barbeque will be held Friday in the cafeteria.
The talent show will be held May 27. Tryouts will be held Thursday and Friday. Students must be picked up by 3:30 p.m. from the cafeteria. Acts can include comedians, magic acts, rap groups, singing, dancing, etc. All performances should be school-appropriate and last no longer than 2 minutes, 30 seconds.
A Strive To Excel Teen Health Symposium for seventh-graders will be held Saturday.
There will be a MAP/PASS parent meeting at 6 p.m. April 18 in the cafeteria.

The Stang Council will be running a schoolwide coin drive for our local Make-A-Wish Foundation this week. If the school collects $200, there will be a 50 percent off day at the student store for a day (including spirit shirts and sweatshirts). MAP testing begins today and PASS testing will begin May 9. The Prepdog website -- www.prepdog.com -- has been shared with us by parents as an excellent resource for use at home with students.

Four $500 scholarships will be awarded by the school's PTSO to seniors whose leadership in activities and organizations while at school have enriched the lives of others and the school community. Applicants must submit an essay and PTSO Leadership, Activities and Community Service Form.

Upper School Orchestra students Cole Gardocki, Marc Halseth, Sarah Hancock, Marcus Hindall, Ester Jung, Chris Kunz, Toks Pedro, Christine Quinn, Marvin Rodriguez, Nicole Roos, John Sheehan, Carlie Van, Jared Woodson and Patricio Yunga recently participated in the South Carolina Concert Festival Orchestra competition in Myrtle Beach. Under the direction of Orchestra Director Catherine Klimoff, the students performed three prepared pieces and were given one piece to sight read on the spot. The orchestra was awarded the second highest score at this state level competition.

OKATIE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
