Woman shot on Hilton Head, hospitalized

A woman is being treated at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after she suffered a single gunshot wound on Hilton Head Island early Wednesday morning.

Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 100 block of Wild Horse Road after a report that the woman had been shot and searched the residence to collect evidence after she was transported, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

Her condition remains unknown.

The handgun deputies believe was involved in the incident was recovered.

A male at the residence during the time of the shooting was interviewed by the Sheriff's Office. No criminal charges have been filed as the investigation continues, the release said.
