A Beaufort teenager was charged with two drug offenses after a car chase on Lady's Island early Wednesday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
Lorenzo Williams Jr., 17, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and simple possession of marijuana after a short chase on Lady's Island around 12:10 a.m., the release said.
Deputies had tried to stop the tan Nissan Maxima that Williams was driving on Sea Island Parkway for improper lighting, but the driver sped up as the deputies turned around to follow the car. The car eventually came to a stop on the parkway, where it began to smoke due to a mechanical problem, the release said. Three passengers were in the car, and all three denied any involvement in the chase or the drugs subsequently found.
Williams was arrested for failure to stop for blue lights, and a Sheriff's Office K-9 unit searched the car, finding cocaine and marijuana hidden in the door of the gas tank, the release said.

Williams was also charged with the two drug offenses and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, the release said.
