A dog attack Saturday led two Hilton Head Island residents to euthanize their pets after one was severely injured by the other, according to a report on the incident.
The attacking dog's owner told officers his pet escaped from his home on Club Course Lane in Sea Pines about 9:20 a.m. and immediately attacked three other dogs on the street, the Sea Pines security report said.
One of those dogs suffered a broken back and had to be euthanized, its owner told officers.
The attacking dog also injured another Club Course resident's dog, which she had been walking on a leash, the report said. The woman was able to pick one of her pets up, but the other one was bitten before a neighbor ran over and hit the errant dog with a broom.

The dogs' breeds were not listed in the report.
Officers cited the attacking dog's owner for an animal running loose, and they were told the owner planned to euthanize the dog because he no longer trusted it.
