A Hardeeville man was arrested Wednesday, accused of shooting a co-worker with a nail gun at a Hilton Head Island construction site, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Albert Vincent Ford, 51, was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. Ford and the victim, a 51-year-old Savannah man, were working on a home under construction in the Jarvis Creek Court subdivision near Spanish Wells Road when the victim reportedly blew cigarette smoke into Ford's face, the release said.
Ford became irate and shot the victim in the abdomen with a nail gun, puncturing a rib and his liver, according to a report on the incident. The victim was taken by other co-workers to Hilton Head Hospital, where he was in good condition Thursday.
Ford has had three prior assault arrests, the Sheriff's Office report said. Included is a 2006 conviction for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, court records show.
In that incident, Ford stabbed a 28-year-old man during an argument over payment for a cellphone, according to a Jasper County Sheriff's Office report.
Ford remained at the Beaufort County Detention Center on Thursday on a $250,000 bond.
