The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is continuing its search for a man who pistol-whipped a Lady's Island grocery store employee Friday morning.
The victim, a 61-year-old man, opened the Food Lion on Sams Point Way just before 5 a.m., after checking behind the store for vendors and any security issues, a Sheriff's Office report said.
After the man unlocked the front doors, the suspect ran down the sidewalk and into the store, demanding money from the cash registers and safe, the report said.
When the employee said there was no money in the registers and that he did not have access to the safe, the suspect brought the victim to the store's office area and said he would kill him if he did not cooperate, according to the Sheriff's Office. When the employee put up a fight, the suspect struck him in the head with a gun and ran away, the report said.
The victim called 911 and was treated for his injuries.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black baseball cap, black T-shirt, dark jeans, work gloves and a blue paisley bandana.
