A Bluffton man was taking a break at work Friday afternoon when he was bitten by a coworker's dog, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
The victim, 27, was sitting outside the Hilton Head Island restaurant where he works, talking with another employee, the report said. Just after 3:20 p.m., the coworker's black and gray pit bull came out from beneath a vehicle and bit the victim on the lower right leg, according to the report.
The coworker restrained the dog and offered to drive the victim to the hospital, the report said.
When the victim was released from the emergency room about 8 p.m., he called the Sheriff's Office, which reported the bite to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Deputies were not able to reach the dog's owner since the victim only knew his first name, the report said.
