A Georgia man was pushed to the ground and robbed outside a Hilton Head Island bar early Friday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
The victim, 25, of Martinez, Ga., had gone at about 1:30 a.m. to the island's bar district on Greenwood Drive with an acquaintance. Soon after the acquaintance left, a suspect knocked the victim down, searched his pockets and ran away with his car keys and a plastic bag filled with about $700, according to the report.
The victim chased him and found his keys on the ground, but not the suspect or the money. It was unclear why the victim was carrying $700.
Though he called 911, the victim initially told deputies he did not want to file a report, using racial slurs. The man called deputies back less than an hour later to make the report.
He described the suspect as a 5-foot-10, 150-pound black man between the ages of 20 and 30, and wearing black clothes. The incident is under investigation.
