A Bluffton woman was charged with driving under the influence after she drove onto the beach access at Coligny Circle on Hilton Head Island and got stuck in the sand Sunday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
Witnesses said they saw the woman's Ford Focus drive through a fountain and onto the beach access at about midnight. The car turned around, hit a bench, then turned around again, the report said.
The car got stuck in the sand as it was heading toward the beach.
The 24-year-old suspect said she had left one restaurant on Hilton Head Island's south end and was on her way to another, according to the report. The suspect thought she was making a right turn into the second restaurant's parking lot when she turned into the beach access area.
