A would-be Hilton Head Island car burglar had second thoughts Wednesday after running into one of his victims, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
The man had just broken into a Chevrolet Impala outside a Fiddler's Cove condominium at about 10:30 p.m. when he came face to face with the car's owner, the report said.
The suspect reportedly said, "I'm sorry, I have no place to go and was only looking for money so I could get food."
He then handed the car owner a handful of loose change and a Garmin GPS that did not come from the Impala. The suspect then walked toward the beach, the report said. Deputies tried to locate the suspect and determine where the GPS came from, but were unsuccessful.
