Six Hilton Head Island residents were arrested Wednesday after the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office searched an apartment because of suspected drug activity, according to a news release.
Members of the Drug Investigations Section searched a Cordillo Courts apartment just after 6:30 p.m., following an investigation that included several controlled purchases of illegal drugs, the release said. Deputies encountered several suspects, one of whom they said tried to throw a handgun and drugs out of a window.
Investigators recovered the Kel-Tec .380 handgun and searched the home, seizing about 4.5 grams of crack cocaine, 30 grams of marijuana, less than 1 gram of methamphetamine, 45 pills of oxycodone, nine pills of Dilaudid and two pills of Xanax, according to the release. They also found $2,533 in cash.
Gary Nunes Jr., 30, was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, marijuana and oxycodone. He also was charged with possession of Dilaudid, Xanax and methamphetamine. He was being held Thursday at the Beaufort County Detention Center with bail set at $90,000, according to the jail log.
Miranda Shawntora Collins, 26, and Matthew Dave Pelton, 32, were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. They were being held at the detention center with bail of $10,000 each.
A 24-year-old man was being held on charges of simple possession of marijuana and possession of oxycodone, with bail of $5,620.
A 22-year-old woman was charged with providing false information, simple possession of marijuana and possession of oxycodone. She was also served three misdemeanor warrants. A 21-year-old woman was served two warrants. Both were being held Thursday pending bond hearings.
The investigation continues, and additional charges and arrests are expected, the release said.
