A man claiming to have a gun in his pocket robbed a Hilton Head Island hotel Thursday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The man entered the Hilton Head Metropolitan Hotel's employee office just after 6 a.m. Thursday and ordered the clerk to give him money, according to a news release. The man did not draw a weapon, the clerk said, but it appeared he was concealing a gun in the cargo pocket of his pants, the release said.
The clerk gave him $22 from the cash register, and the man took a hotel laptop computer valued at $600, according to an incident report.
The robber also asked the clerk to hand over her keys, the report said. She refused and told him, "If you take my keys, you won't need to worry about the police catching you because my husband will kill you," according to the report.
The man did not respond and ran out the front doors.
He is described as black, 32 to 40 years old, about 5-feet-10, 150 pounds, wearing a black top, a black skull cap, and sagging black sweat pants with cargo pockets.
The Sheriff's Office surrounded the area after the robbery, and K-9 units were unable to find the man, the release said. The investigation continues.
