A Crime Stoppers tip led Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies to a home on Bryant Road on Hilton Head, where Dayne Edward Wright, 25, of Ridgeland was staying.
Wright is accused of shooting 31-year-old Hardeeville man Kennard Brown several times Feb. 17 at Hilton Head Gardens apartments.
Brown and a friend told deputies they had been visiting a woman there and were walking through the complex when they heard gunshots behind them.
Brown was struck several times and later treated at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh.
His friend was not injured, the Sheriff's Office said.
The men could not provide a description of the shooter, but investigators learned of a long-standing feud between Wright and Brown.
McIntosh said the men had previously fought, and the shooting "is believed to have been in retaliation."
The Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help in finding Wright the day after the shooting.
Wright has been denied bond and is being held for prosecution, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log. He was convicted in 2011 of manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance in Jasper County, a felony, according to S.C. Law Enforcement Division records.
