An 18-year-old Hilton Head Island man has been arrested for allegedly threatening women with a pistol on two separate occasions at Hilton Head Island's Jarvis Creek Park, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Neil Figueroa Martinez of Manatee Way was charged Thursday evening with two counts of armed robbery after two women exercising on a trail at the park reported similar crimes on May 21 and May 29, a news release said.
The Sheriff's Office issued a news release about the robberies late Wednesday, after a woman said she was approached by a man on the trail at about 5:30 p.m., who pointed a handgun at her and threatened to sexually assault and kill her.
The suspect was scared off by the appearance of a male jogger, the release said.
A similar robbery attempt had been reported eight days before.
At about 8 p.m. May 21, a man approached a woman and pointed a handgun at her, demanding her cell telephone and anything else of value. Before she could comply, the suspect became alarmed and rode away on his bicycle, the Sheriff's Office said.
More charges may be pending against Martinez, a news release Thursday said.
