A package delivered to a Hilton Head Island restaurant that prompted workers there to alert authorities turned out to be jars of honey, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Bill Neill, director of the support and services branch at the Sheriff's Office, said employees at Daphne's Cafe & Market in the Village at Wexford were suspicious when a plastic foam cooler showed up that they hadn't ordered.
The Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad arrived at about 9:45 a.m. The cafe and nearby businesses were evacuated until authorities investigated the cooler, finding jars of honey inside.
It turns out the honey was indeed intended for the cafe, but the staff had not recognized the sender's address, Neill said.
Never miss a local story.
"Unfortunately in today's world, you have to be cautious and you can't assume anything," Neill said.
The scene was cleared by about 12:30 p.m., Neill said.
