A Hilton Head Island man charged with robbing two Bank of America branches in two days this week hit a car in a Walmart parking lot just minutes before robbing the island bank branch, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
David Edward Boyd, 51, was driving a coworker's green Honda Accord when he hit a silver Chevrolet HHR as he tried to pull into a parking spot at the Walmart on Pembroke Drive just after 11 a.m. Thursday, the report said. Boyd apparently parked the car, returned a bag of clothes he had purchased from the Walmart and left without acknowledging he had hit the car.
About 20 minutes later, he robbed the bank on Hatton Place just down the road from Walmart, the report said. Sheriff's deputies later caught him in the parking lot of Burger King on Museum Street, across William Hilton Parkway from the Walmart. Deputies found the car Boyd had been driving in the lot, as well.
According to the report, Boyd had borrowed the car from a coworker May 1, but never returned it.
On Wednesday, Boyd allegedly robbed a Bank of America branch in Bluffton.
