A man reported March 1 that he was beaten by a man and woman outside a Hilton Head Island restaurant but waited nearly 10 hours to report it, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim told a deputy he was sitting in the parking lot of Aunt Chiladas restaurant on Pope Avenue around midnight Feb. 28 when a man kicked him in the head and proceeded to attack him, the report said. He reported the assault at 9:30 a.m. the next day.
The male assailant was then joined by a woman, who also assaulted the victim as he laid on the ground. The man took the victim’s phone. The victim was able to get to his feet and took him phone back from the woman before the pair ran away, the report said.
The victim told a deputy he recognized the pair as a couple he spotted arguing inside the restaurant earlier in the night. He described the man as 5-feet-10 inches tall to 6 feet tall with a medium build with a dark-colored, closely trimmed beard and short dark hair. He described the woman as being 5-feet-5-inches tall to 5-feet-7-inches tall with bleach blonde hair and a slender build.
The victim added that he waited to contact the Sheriff’s Office because he was not sure he wanted to make the report and didn’t want the incident investigated further.
