A woman went to T.J. Maxx on Hilton Head Island on Monday to buy a necklace, but she left with two fewer pieces of jewelry than she walked in with, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
The woman brought several pieces of jewelry to the store to make sure they matched a necklace she was interested in purchasing. While browsing the glass jewelry case, she left a small suede bag — containing the items from home — on the counter.
Another woman, described in the report as acting strangely, walked up to the counter between her and the bag, the report states.
It wasn’t until she returned home and looked inside her bag that the jewelry owner realized just how strangely the woman was acting.
Never miss a local story.
A bracelet and ring estimated at $5,000 were missing from the bag, the report states.
