A man got away with a stack of clothes and jewelry after he ran from two Tanger 1 Outlets stores Wednesday afternoon.
He might be a thief, but he was polite. He thanked an employee on his way out.
The first theft was reported at Tommy Hilfiger around 6:15 p.m., according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. An employee described the thief as a man with a “military-style” haircut who was wearing a black coat, white T-shirt and khaki pants with black shoes. The man left the business with 12 pairs of jeans, four T-shirts, a button-down shirt and a pair of navy blue shoes valued at $1,073. He ran away and got into an older model Mercedes, the report said. He dropped several other pieces of clothing as he ran, along with one shoe.
He hit the Zales jewelry store next.
An employee described a man with a “military-style” haircut who asked to see necklaces, according to a separate sheriff’s office report. He specifically asked to see a 14k gold necklace and a bracelet set. When the man asked the employee if he could hold the jewelry, she obliged.
“(He) then grabbed both the single necklace and the (bracelet and necklace) set and ran out the back door yelling, ‘thank you,’ ” the report said. He pushed the door with so much force, that he broke the hinges off of it. The value of the jewelry was redacted from the report.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking to community to help identify the man who was seen on surveillance footage, according to a news release Thursday night.
